A Year of Synergy: Highlights From the 2024 Collaboration Between Saga Egmont and Cappelen Damm 

Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, Finland, and France now have access to new crime and romance best-sellers, thanks to Saga Egmont’s collaboration with Norway’s biggest publisher Cappelen Damm.  

This marks 2024 as a strong year for the European publishing scene. The ongoing partnership between the two publishers has expanded the reach of Nordic literature, benefiting both authors and new readers across various markets. 

Here is an overview of some of the main projects of this year – featuring different authors, titles, and audiences. 

Danish Author Steffen Jacobsen Translated and Published in Norway 

Steffen Jacobsen’s crime series, featuring Lene Jensen and Michael Sander, was published in the Norwegian market, proving the wide-ranging appeal of Danish crime fiction.

Publishing the series of the imprint Nordic Sagas stands as another example of Saga Egmont and Cappelen Damm’s collaboration. This collection of historical romances in Norwegian settings has captivated readers across markets: Danish, Finnish, French, and English-speaking audiences among others. Another example of new readers getting access to great literature in several formats.

The Queen of Crime Karin Fossum Brought to Denmark, Germany and Sweden 

The reach of author Karin Fossum – hailed as Norway’s queen of crime – expanded thanks to the partnership between Cappelen Damm and Saga Egmont.  

Her series featuring Eddie Feber was launched in Denmark and Germany in several formats, while the first Swedish Eddie Feber publications are just around the corner. This multi-market and multi-format approach caters to the diverse demands from international readers.  

Fossum expressed her enthusiasm, saying:

Lars Saabye Christensen Available to Icelandic Readers 

One of the notable initiatives was bringing renowned Nordic author Lars Saabye Christensen to broader audiences. Christensen’s iconic novel “The Half Brother,” translated and published in Icelandic, quickly became a digital bestseller in Iceland, demonstrating the novel’s powerful narrative and effective translation. 

“It almost feels like coming home again”, says Lars Saabye Christensen regarding the opportunity to connect to his Icelandic audience. From Cappelen Damm Agency, the manager, Ingvild Haugland Blatt, says that she is thrilled to see the authorship of this important contemporary Norwegian author once again available in Iceland.

Saga Egmont Went “Kokosbananas” 

Another exciting project for Saga Egmont and Cappelen Damm was the introduction of Rolf Magne Andersen’s beloved children’s series, Kokosbananas, to new markets in Sweden and Finland. The series, full of magic and humor that appeals to both children and adults, is one of the most streamed kids’ series in Norway. With this collaboration, ten Finnish titles and six Swedish titles are set to be published, in both audiobook and eBook format.
