Publishing House Lindhardt og Ringhof doubles revenue in six years

In 2023, the Copenhagen-based publisher Lindhardt og Ringhof generated a revenue of EUR 94 million and achieved an operating profit (EBIT) of EUR 7 million. This was a new record for the publishing house. Revenue has doubled since 2017, and in the past year alone it has improved by more than EUR 13 million. 

“At the same time, we have managed to complete a successful digital transformation of the entire publishing house without affecting sales of printed books. It is also worth noting that we have doubled the number of employees during the same period, so we now have more than 450 employees,” says CEO Lars Boesgaard.

Audiobooks and e-books accounted for a significant part 

Of the 32 million books sold by Lindhardt og Ringhof in 2023, audiobooks and e-books accounted for a significant part through the digital publishing branch Saga. The readership has never been bigger, and out of Saga’s 130,000 digital releases in 30 languages, a number of highly successful Danish crime authors such as Steffen Jacobsen, Inger Gammelgaard Madsen, and Michael Katz Krefeld are now available to readers in many countries. 

This year, among numerous publications, the Saga imprint unveiled several standout audiobooks across various languages. German audiences savored Lilly Lucas’s ‘Liebe, Zimt und Zucker’(Love, Cinnamon and Sugar) and ‘New Wishes’, alongside Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin’s ‘J. Robert Oppenheimer: Die Biographie’(American Prometheus) – the novel that inspired the hit movie ‘Oppenheimer’. 

Swedish listeners appreciated Emma Olofsson’s compelling ‘I döden er vi lika’ (In death we are equal), while Glendy Vanderah’s American novel ‘Where the Forest Meets the Stars’ found a new voice in Finnish. Additionally, Polish readers discovered Steffen Jacobsen’s Danish thrillers ‘Trofæ’ (Trophy) and ‘Gengældelsen’ (The Retaliation), now available in Polish as ‘Trofeum‘ and ‘Odwet‘.

Notable Danish releases from Lindhardt og Ringhof includes Thomas Korsgaard’s short novel ’Mente I det’ (Did You Mean It), American cult author Bret Easton Ellis’ ’Skår’ (Shards), and Pulitzer Prize winner Hernan Diaz’ novel ’Tillid’ (Trust). Furthermore, the entire 24-novel oeuvre of international phenomenon Colleen Hoover was made available in Danish.

In 2024, readers can anticipate new releases from a broad spectrum of authors. The list includes Danish publications from Leif Davidsen, Yuval Harari, Karl Ove Knausgård, Daniel Kehlmann, and Anna Grue but also notable international reissues by Saga from authors like Danielle Steel, Ken Follett, James Patterson, David Baldacci, Richard Osman, Astrid Lindgren, Petra Hammesfahr, and the Disney Brand.
